    Toorak Apartment 2

Living Edge was recently featured in a beautiful Melbourne apartment by Griffiths Design Studio. We had the pleasure of speaking with Gillianne Griffiths of Griffiths Design Studio regarding the amazing new space.

    Project - 01.08.2016

The brief was to create a comfortable yet elegant and sophisticated apartment using contrast, tone and texture for added warmth. The need was for a relaxed, lived-in interior that enhanced the current fittings, fixtures and finishes. Another key was to bring the outside in, opening spaces to lightness and freshness.

As the client loves to entertain, Gillianne's vision was for the space to be versatile, comfortable and uncomplicated yet still elegant. It was important for the space to be livable, durable and functional whilst still being gloriously glamorous! Gillianne's style is very much understated luxe and she normally achieves this by adding subtle elements of luxury throughout.

The design choices, colour palette and materials are simple. The grey hues throughout have a beautiful soft quality that creates a calming feel and encourages one to unwind.

The colours of the furnishings are subdued but nevertheless instil a luxurious feeling, enhanced by the reflection of the outside throughout the living areas. By introducing some contrasting textures and occasional bursts of colour in the otherwise neutral fit-out, the spaces surprise and delight – removing predictability and monotony.

Gillianne's favourite design elements were the use of simple forms, clean lines, natural tones and materials incorporated with strong textural elements of nature, such as concrete, stone and timber for warmth. A careful and curated selection of lighting is another favourite of hers in this project. The studio created a series of floor-to-ceiling smoked mirrored panels opposite the windows in the main living area, which reflect the outside world and create a wonderful illusion of space and light, which Gillianne's admits is her favourite space in the entire house.
