Overlooking Melbourne’s Fitzroy Gardens, this urban retreat is designed to feel like home, grounded in family, connection and the art of entertaining.
In an East Melbourne apartment, Dasch Associates translated the client’s affinity for Melbourne into space, material and proportion. Living and dining unfold as one open area, shaped by light, expansive views and the urban context beyond the Fitzroy Gardens. The city’s roofscapes and the skyline inform the interior, creating spaces that feel grounded in place.

"We wanted the space to be a celebration of who the client is, and a place where they can tell their own story."
– Mark Davis, Dasch AssociatesFurniture by Walter Knoll and Herman Miller, along with hardware by Buster + Punch throughout contributes a sense of permanence and clarity through its emphasis on proportion, craft and materiality.

The dining setting features the ANDO-Extendable Dining Table in Nutwood with sapwood inclusions, where its reduced volumes complement a minimalist aesthetic while conveying a sense of timeless stability. >
Surrounding the table, Saddle Chairs designed by EOOS showcase a continuous clay-coloured leather robe that envelops the frame, with flowing lines, meticulously polished edges, and precise seams defining their form. The ensemble is completed by the Saddle Counter Stool with Backrest—a bar-heighted seat that balances classical austerity with exceptional comfort, demonstrating craftsmanship in every detail.

In the lounge area, the generously upholstered surfaces of the Jaan Living Sofa, also by EOOS, float effortlessly over a delicate frame, striking a serene balance between lightness and weight. Positioned nearby, the OOTA Side Table echo this sense of refinement, with steel trellis supporting round glass top that softly capture and reflect the ambient light from the marble fireplace.

Outside, the connecting balcony is complete with an elegant white marble and black based Eames Aluminium Group Outdoor Table around which black Eames Aluminium Group Outdoor Side Chairs assemble.
“Exuding a sophisticated beauty, the project highlights how thoughtful design and a considered curation of furniture can create a refined sanctuary.”
– Bryan Mahony, Living EdgeThe result is a carefully considered space that feels cohesive, creating a home rooted in place and perspective.
