Mura Projects

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise their connection to the land, waters, and seas, and we celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the land’s first artists, designers, and makers.

Introducing Mura Projects

Mura Projects is a 50% Indigenous owned furniture provider specialising in the delivery of high-quality furniture and lighting packages for contract projects across Australia. Mura Projects offers a diverse portfolio of leading furniture and lighting brands that brings together the very best of international design and local Australian design, manufacturing, and craftsmanship.

Mura Projects is an Indigenous Joint Venture between Rick and Darren Higgins, Living Edge, and Designcraft. By investing in Mura Projects, you can help us in our mission to create meaningful employment and ownership opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in the furniture industry.

Mura

Mura is a word from the Ngunnawal language meaning "pathway".

Our vision is to grow a First Nations owned and operated business capable of delivering high quality furniture projects throughout Australia and provide meaningful employment and ownership opportunities for Indigenous Peoples in the furniture industry.

We aim to combine the capability and cultural knowledge of our Joint Venture Partners to deliver projects across Australia and invest a portion of the revenue we earn in a 'Mura Pathways Fund'. We will use this fund to create growth pathways for First Nations business leaders and employees, deliver social value to Indigenous communities, and develop the autonomous capability of the business.

Creating Opportunity

We have developed a Skills & Capability Transfer Plan to set out how we will transfer knowledge and capability from the Joint Venture Partners to Mura Projects as a stand-alone organisation.

Our strategy focuses on four key stages:
1. Establishing a ‘Mura Fund’ to invest in growth
2. Developing a sales & administration function
3. Building operational capability
4. Adding marketing resources and showroom space

We have also developed an Indigenous Workforce Plan to formalise our target to achieve 25% Indigenous employment and set out how we intend to increase Indigenous engagement in our workforce.

Creating Social Value

Alongside investing in the businesses' own capability and resources, we also aim to use the Mura Fund to create social value by creating education scholarships for Indigenous talent, and supporting community initiatives developed in collaboration with community leaders.

Our Capability

Mura Projects has the capability to source, deliver, and maintain high volume furniture and lighting packages for workplace, education, government, and hospitality projects across Australia.

We represent a diverse portfolio of high-quality furniture and lighting brands that brings together the best of international design and local Australian design, manufacturing, and craftsmanship. Each brand we represent is selected for the quality and significance of its designs, its relevance to our customers, and a commitment to social and environmental responsibility aligned to our own.

Our Artwork

Our logo, artwork and branding has been developed by Brittney Angus, a proud Wiradjuri & Ngunnawal contemporary digital artist, graphic designer and creative creating on Dharawal Country in Wollongong, NSW. Our brief to Brittney was to create an artwork and brand concept that represents “Pathways” – the concept at the heart of our vision for Mura Projects.

“At the heart of the piece is a meeting place, filled with patterns and earthy tones, symbolizing the core of community life and ongoing partnerships. From this central point, pathways extend outward, marked by animal tracks and symbols representing ancestors, and spirits of the Dreamtime who guide and walk alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. These paths intersect with others, illustrating the various journeys of community members and partners, and highlighting the interconnectedness and shared experiences that unite them.”
