Nestled within the heart of Elizabeth Quay, Chevron Australia’s new headquarters at One The Esplanade weaves together a tapestry of architectural excellence, cultural richness, and environmental consciousness. The focal point of this endeavour is a building design that goes beyond mere functionality, creating a space that unites its workforce and the broader community, promoting health, wellness, and celebrating indigenous heritage.

The architectural vision directed by Gensler, seamlessly integrates the natural beauty of the surroundings, Aboriginal culture, and human-centric spaces, fostering a sense of place and togetherness. The result is a workspace that transcends the conventional, becoming a living testament to Chevron's commitment to its people, the community and sustainability. Through this harmonious blend, Gensler has crafted an environment that not only pays homage to the land's rich heritage but also propels its occupants towards a shared sense of purpose and belonging.

The innovative design ethos extends beyond traditional architectural elements. Living Edge was proud to collaborate in the inclusion of key Furniture elements. A key facet of this is the integration of Bloc by David Caon, strategically utilised throughout the space. These versatile Bloc designs serve as dynamic pockets for both solo work and collaborative endeavours, adding a layer of adaptability to the workspace. Whether employees seek moments of focused concentration or vibrant team collaboration, Bloc provide a flexible solution that seamlessly blends with the overall design aesthetic. This thoughtful incorporation of David Caon’s work not only enhances the functionality of the workspace but also reflects Chevron's commitment to fostering a dynamic environment that caters to the diverse needs and preferences of its workforce.

In the pursuit of a holistic and ergonomic workspace, the design ethos extends to the choice of seating, with the prestigious Mirra 2 and Cosm Chairs by Herman Miller gracing the boardrooms and collaborative workspaces. Renowned for their cutting-edge design and unparalleled comfort, these chairs contribute to an environment that prioritises both style and functionality. In the boardroom the Cosm Chairs lend an air of sophistication and ergonomic support and in collaborative workspaces, Cosm as well as Mirra 2 Chairs provide a dynamic seating solution that effortlessly adapts to the diverse needs of a team, promoting creativity and seamless collaboration. The integration of these iconic chairs helps create workspaces that are conducive to both productivity and well-being.

Seating throughout the project was carefully considered. For the auditorium, Virtus seating from Figueras was utilised. The Virtus 13205 is a seat of simple lines, timeless design and subtle beauty that offers optimum comfort. This seat, which stands out for the alignment of its seat and the continuity of its backrest, has been developed specially for auditoriums, performing arts centres, corporate halls, and conference centres.

At the core of this design philosophy is a commitment to environmental sustainability. Targeting a 6-star Green Star rating and WELL Platinum Certification, Chevron is committed to prioritising the well-being of its employees and environmental sustainability. The building's eco-friendly features, coupled with its focus on occupant health and wellness, create a workplace that not only meets the highest industry standards but also serves as an inspiration for others to follow suit.

The timeless tapestry Gensler has woven gracefully intertwines themes of water, land, flora, and local culture, celebrating diversity and embracing the community's soul. In doing so, One The Esplanade has become a radiant symbol of success in harmonising the built environment with indigenous heritage, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape and the hearts of those who inhabit it. As a cornerstone of Elizabeth Quay, the building stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design, sustainability, and cultural integration in shaping a better, more united future.
