Description
Designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, the Arco Floor Lamp remains one of the most recognised objects in modern design. Inspired by the functional logic of street lighting, the Castiglioni brothers developed a floor-standing lamp capable of projecting light over a table or seating area, eliminating the need for a ceiling fixture while maintaining a clean architectural gesture.
The design is defined by its striking material composition: a solid white Carrara marble base provides a counterbalance to the long satin-finish stainless-steel telescopic stem, which extends in a graceful arc. At the end, a pressed and polished aluminium reflector swivels and adjusts in height, allowing light to be directed precisely where it is needed.
This version incorporates an integrated 28W LED light source delivering warm 2700K illumination, combining contemporary energy efficiency with the timeless engineering of the original design. The result is a refined overhead lighting solution that works equally well above dining tables, lounge settings or open living spaces.
More than six decades after its debut, the Arco continues to represent the Castiglionis’ philosophy of functional elegance—where inventive engineering, purposeful materials and sculptural presence combine to create a lasting design classic.
