    Muuto's New perspective at Milan 2018

    Muuto is rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition characterized by enduring aesthetics, functionality, craftsmanship and an honest expression. By expanding this heritage with forward-looking materials, techniques and bold creative thinking, our ambition is to deliver new perspectives on Scandinavian design.

    At this year’s Salone del Mobile Scandinavian design was on display! Muuto showcased several new designs rooted in Scandinavian tradition;

    The design typology of Muuto’s Base Table family is steeped in functionality, simplicity and refined detailing—elements that are translated and enhanced further into the design of Base Table High.

    Referencing the Scandinavian wooden tables of the 1950’s, the new Base Table High adds a new perspective through its aluminium frame and scaled-down proportions for a light sentiment.

    For the design, Studio Tolvanen wanted the table to have a distinct appearance yet without it making any visual noise, motivating us to reduce the design into its archetypical form.

    Bringing the industrial elements of factories into the home is the Enfold Sideboard by Danish designer Thomas Bentzen. Made from a lacquered steel that gently enfolds the components in solid oak, the Enfold Sideboard fuses cold and warm materials.

     “Enfold Sideboard came from the many factory visits that I do as a designer, prompting me to explore the aesthetic appeal of industrial objects. I wanted to translate this element into the modern home, combined with an appreciation of the Scandinavian design tradition.” Thomas Bentzen

    Embodying the design language of Outline is the Outline Corner Sofa, an angular take on the elegant sofa design with a delicate silhouette and fine detailing, referencing the very essence of Scandinavian design.

    “The new additions to the Outline Sofa Series expand the possibilities of the design. The Corner Sofa brings a completely new expression to the series while the 3½-Seater extends the element of comfort into a refined and lounging sofa. Lastly, the Outline Pouf makes an elegant addition to any sofa and lounge setting. In short, the three new Outline designs embody clean lines and simple design, complemented by a generous seat and slender legs.” – Anderssen & Voll

    And finally, extending the expression of the Workshop Chair that was introduced in the spring of 2017, the Workshop Coffee Table translates the understated elements of Scandinavian craftsmanship into a simple design. Here, the seamless integration of the design’s table top and legs echoes the refined design language of the Scandinavian design heritage.

    “The Workshop Coffee Table is a design that is pared down to the essence. Deliberately simple in its expression, the table has an almost archetypical appearance that comes from a wish to make as little noise as possible—the details and joints are doing all the talking."  Cecilie Manz
