Shaped through strong partnerships with Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation and Court Services Victoria, the building contributes to the civic revitalisation of Bendigo's city precinct.
Delivering accessible, culturally sensitive, and responsive justice to Bendigo and the wider Loddon-Mallee region, the Bendigo Law Courts is the first Victorian court to integrates a full suite of specialist courts including family violence and Koori courts. It’s also the first with dedicated circulation reserved for vulnerable persons and separate remote witness and safe waiting facilities.
Particularly within Bendigo law courts the brief included combining warm colours and textures specifically to create a welcoming environment, in hopes of diminishing tension, and dignifying the experience of attending court.
Selecting public seating involves careful consideration of various factors to ensure comfort, durability, and functionality. For these spaces durable materials are often chosen to withstand heavy use and varying conditions, so careful attention must be considered to attain this while still upholding a cohesive and pleasing aesthetic within the space.
Additionally, ergonomic design principles should be applied to promote comfort and accessibility for users of all ages and abilities. Balancing functionality with design aesthetics is key to creating inviting public spaces that enhance the overall experience for users. Moreover, sustainability considerations, such as the use of recycled materials and the product's end-of-life disposal, are increasingly important in the selection process.
