LEK Consulting’s 1,000m² Melbourne workplace on Collins Street was designed by Linear Designs as a genuine destination for its people: a place to connect, collaborate and do their best work together.

Moving beyond the conventions of a traditional consulting environment, the design combines the rigour of a high-performance workplace with the warmth and tactility of boutique hospitality. Furniture and materials introduce a more residential quality, while a palette of soft pinks, warm golds, olive greens and deep navy draws inspiration from the changing Melbourne cityscape.

The spatial planning supports the full spectrum of contemporary work, from focused individual tasks and informal conversations to collaborative workshops and client entertainment. Wellbeing is integrated throughout, with sit-to-stand workstations, natural light, planting and dedicated spaces for respite, prayer and parents.

At the centre of the workplace, height-adjustable Herman Miller Ratio workstations are paired with Aeron task chairs, supporting both seated and standing work throughout the day. Configurations vary across the floor, providing different degrees of privacy and collaboration depending on the task.

Kelly Hall, Director at Linear Designs, said the selection provided LEK’s people with a truly ergonomic offering to support a healthy workplace.

“We were able to create the contemporary, clean-line aesthetic we were after, where the chair colour blended seamlessly with the workstations in a uniquely warm grey colour palette. Herman Miller’s standard colour palette allowed us to match the desktop to the legs to the screen, for a more bespoke workstation palette than the mainstream alternatives.”

In the client-facing spaces, Eames Tables extend the same design language into the meeting rooms, offering flexibility for in-person meetings and video conferencing. The furniture creates continuity between workplace and client areas, contributing to an environment that feels polished and considered without becoming overly formal.

In the boardroom, Living Edge worked with Linear Designs to develop a 16-person video-conferencing table. The bespoke configuration provides generous space for collaboration while integrating the technology required for large-scale video conferencing.

Lighting plays an important role in shaping the atmosphere of the workplace, balancing the functional requirements of a high-performance environment with the softer, more hospitality-led character of the interiors.

Lambert & Fils Laurent pendants introduce visual rhythm and a decorative element throughout the workplace, complementing the neutral material palette while helping distinguish focused work areas, meeting spaces and client-facing settings.

Across the workplace, furniture and lighting work together to create an environment that feels both professional and inviting. The result is a flexible workplace shaped around connection, wellbeing and different modes of work, with the warmth and character of hospitality brought into a contemporary consulting environment.
