MSDS Studio

A multidisciplinary design studio founded in Toronto by Jessica Nakanishi and Jonathan Sabine, where furniture, lighting and interior projects are approached with equal rigor and curiosity.

The studio’s work synthesises careful material exploration with a minimalist sensibility, drawing on Scandinavian and Japanese influences while remaining deeply informed by context and craft.

Their furniture and product designs are characterised by restrained forms, thoughtful proportions and a clarity that reveals how things are made. This clarity, paired with a resourceful use of materials, results in pieces that feel both contemporary and enduring — intuitive in use and subtle in expression.
Beyond objects, MSDS engages with spatial briefs that integrate architecture, furniture and human behaviour. Their interiors and installations reflect a holistic design logic where each element is considered in relation to its surroundings, emphasising tactility, proportion and the experience of space.

Over the past decade the studio has built an international profile, exhibiting product work at events such as the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and collaborating with notable brands across North America and Europe.
