An Italian designer and artist known for blending art and design into poetic, emotionally expressive objects.
Based in Milan, she holds degrees in Fashion Design (2003) and Industrial Design (2008) from the Polytechnic University of Milan, following earlier study at the Brera School of Art. In 2009 she co-founded a design studio with architect Angelo Stoli, through which she works across disciplines - from product design and textile work to interior installations and visual arts.
Her work is often characterised by vivid colours, three-dimensional textures, and an imaginative visual language that draws on sources ranging from nature, animals, mythology and global cultures to street art, fashion, and illustration. Salmistraro places a strong emphasis on harmony of shapes and the expressive, emotional potential of objects - seeing form not only as functional but also as capable of evoking poetic stories and feelings.
Over her career she has collaborated with many major international and Italian brands such as Disney, Vitra, Natuzzi, Alessi, Ikea, and many others.
Her work has won several prestigious awards (including the Salone del Mobile Milano Award, Frame Design Award), and has been exhibited in leading galleries and museums worldwide. In addition, she is active in teaching at institutions such as Istituto Marangoni and Milan Polytechnic.
