Gianni Ruffi

Gianni Ruffi was born in 1938 in Florence. He held his first solo exhibition in 1962 in his hometown at the Gallery Number of Fiamma Vigo, followed by a second solo exhibition at the same gallery the following year and a third in 1965 at the Zoom Studio of Pistoia.

In the same year, Ruffi participated, together with the other members of the Pistoia Group, Barni and Buscioni, to the exposure to the new Vigna Gallery of Florence. In 1966, he served at the Galleria La Salita in Rome and participated, with Roberto Barni and Alberto Moretti, at the Michand Gallery in Florence and in the autumn exhibition RAI 1 Aspects of the "return to the things themselves".

Ruffi began his rich period of official recognition not only from Italian critics, but also by foreign demand. He exhibited with Barni and Buscioni at the Selected Artists Gallery in New York and at the Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst in Monaco; in Italy he took part in collective tribute to the Tropics at the Libreria Feltrinelli of Florence.
In 1968 Ruffi participated in the Collective at the Galleria La Salita in Rome, the exhibition Revort II Palermo and III Exhibition of Contemporary Art at the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. At the end of the 60s, his relationship with the group of Pistoia began to fragment and Ruffi began an artistic autonomous path, which lead him to explore new ways and come to a greater focus on the conceptual and potential of materials.

Ruffi began to leave natural elements and move to objects from everyday materials, such as iron and the Traps of wood and Tagliole. Ruffi will always remain true to a basic poetic, a Pop representation of the object, while accompanying it over time with new ideas and experiments. The artist lives and works in Pistoia and Serravalle.
