Description

The Geometric Series from BassamFellows celebrates the sublimity of pure geometry championed by the Wiener Werkstätte and the Bauhaus. In the same way that designers of these two influential schools tested the liberating material properties of bentwood and tubular steel, Bassam refined a set of constraints to spirit cold-rolled tubular steel into forms that hold the horizontal planes of a seat deck or tabletop, achieving the poetic appearance of extreme lightness and suspension. These stately steel scaffolds operate as a connective tissue uniting the furniture’s functional elements in a Gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art, a synthesis central to BassamFellows’ philosophy of formal and functional coherence in design.

The Geometric Sofa elegantly combines a variety of materials in a single design. It features an ergonomically shaped seat carved from solid Walnut and a lightweight pellicle skin of Vienna caning. The nickel or bronze plated tubular steel is wrapped with natural grain leather for high touch comfort and to conceal all welds, joinery, and seams, forming a signature element that runs through the Geometric Collection. Leather wrapping also provides extra comfort and support by connecting the two structural elements of the chair’s tubular steel back, and includes additional back and arm cushions for more relaxed comfort.
