Lattice Mirror

Description

Designed and produced by Bower Studios, the Lattice mirror transforms an everyday reflective surface into something closer to an abstract artwork. Bands of gradient mirror are precisely arranged into a graphic grid, fragmenting reflections between passages of colour and open space.

The effect comes from gradient mirrors developed by South African design duo Spectrum. Pure metal elements are layered onto glass to create luminous transitions that appear to dissolve from one colour into another. Bower cuts and positions each section to emphasise these changing tones, setting the composition within a walnut frame. As daylight, artificial light and the room itself shift around it, Lattice continually gathers different fragments into view.

Lattice 4 is the open-edition expression of the collection, measuring a substantial 1562mm square. Production spans New York City and South Africa, bringing together Bower’s design with Spectrum’s specialised gradient mirror work.

Rather than simply returning the room as it is, Lattice edits the reflection. Familiar surroundings become colour, geometry and fleeting detail, creating an artwork that changes according to its setting and what happens around it.
