WonderGlass fuses traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, handcrafting bespoke glass lighting and installations for architecture, art and fashion.

Maurizio and Christian Mussati founded WonderGlass in 2013, developing and manufacturing beautifully crafted, glass lighting and bespoke installations and chandeliers.  WonderGlass draws on the tradition of Murano glass making, and partners with global designers such as Nao Tamura, Marcel Wanders, Zaha Hadid, Hideki Yoshimoto, Dan Yeffet, John Pawson, Nendo, Jaime Hayón and Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

Operating from their Headquarters and Gallery space in London and working with their specialist teams in Venice, WonderGlass offers an array of solutions using glass-blowing and cast-glass techniques. Its ability to combine innovative and original design with a traditional handmade quality makes WonderGlass unique and world leaders in glass design.

WonderGlass’ extraordinary craftspeople and contemporary designers have revolutionised the practice of blown glass, which has been produced in Murano since the thirteenth century. This is showcased in Nao Tamura’s Flow[T], John Pawson’s Sleeve and Jamie Hayón’s Masquerade, which demonstrate the skill and diversity of the designers and craftspeople.

Cast glass is an ancient form of craftsmanship and possibly the oldest method for working glass. Based in their Venetian workshops, WonderGlass’ craftspeople used specially made cast-iron moulds, often of their own manufacture. Melt by Nendo, Horah by Raw Edges and Alcova by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are examples of cast-glass projects that push the boundaries of the material and method.

WONDERLAB WonderGlass works with its Venetian team of WonderLab artisans to offer architects, artists, developers, hotel designers and museums the opportunity to incorporate artisanal creations into projects of any scale. Collaborators include Richard Meier (Ana Meier and Hervé Descottes), India Mahdavi, tonychi and WOHA. Recent installations include the lobby of Elbphilharmonie Hamburg (by Herzog & de Meuron) and the DarkSide bar in Rosewood Hong Kong.

MAURIZIO AND CHRISTIAN MUSSATI Italian-born, London-based, father-and-son Maurizio and Christian Mussati founded WonderGlass to challenge and reinterpret the long-standing traditions and craftsmanship of glass making in a contemporary way. Both Maurizio and Christian arrived in design from a finance background. Maurizio was the director of Italian lighting manufacturer Flos, and managing director of lighting at Dutch company Moooi. In 2008, Maurizio joined British design company Established & Sons as COO, and then CEO until 2016. Maurizio has also worked with Bosa and Lasvit, Bisazza and Castaldi Lighting. WonderGlass provided Maurizio and Christian an opportunity to return to their Italian roots and fulfil a personal passion for the craft of glassmaking.

Living Edge presents WonderGlass Recognised worldwide for fusing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design WonderGlass provides custom solutions for architecture, art and fashion through the development of bespoke glass lighting and installations. In celebration of Maurizio and Christian Mussati’s visit to Australia, WonderGlass has created a bespoke and exclusive series of glass installations for Living Edge, providing a unique glimpse into the potential of the material. These installations will showcase the following projects and products from the WonderGlass portfolio.

ALCOVA - Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Alcova is a collection of handcrafted geometric objects grouped to create intimate landscapes. “The Alcova collection is a series of coloured cast-glass geometrical shapes that are organically composed. We approached this project in a brutal and primary way, working with the thickness of the material and letting the process guide us, seeking to preserve all the magic of the ballet of molten glass manipulated by master glassmakers,” Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec describe. It is available in four forms in amber, light amber, crystal, green.

FLOW[T] - Designed by Nao Tamura. The reflections of the Venetian cityscape glistening on the evening water hints at an imaginary city below the moving surface. There is a border between the world under and the land above. The Flow[T] chandelier is the embodiment of the beauty of dual worlds in the city of Venice, where the real world and fantasy world coexist. Flow[T] is a contemporary chandelier inspired by the colours of the Venetian lagoon and customised to the desires of each owner. Each piece has its own shape, and they create a sculptural display of lighting in multiples. Available in two editions: Flow[T] - green (turquoise) or white Night Flow[T] - dark grey (limited edition).

NASSE - Designed by Marco Zito and BTM. A dream-like series that draws inspiration directly from the Venetian lagoon. The Venetian lagoon is a microcosm of light and colour that define the landscape in the morning, summer, winter, fog and sunset, during which Venetian fisherman still use traditional nets. These visuals ignited Marco Zito and BTM to design a collection of large luminous objects that seem to emerge from the water, in which hand-blown glass defines shapes through evocative nuances and an unconventional use of fishing nets emphasises the plays of light. Available in two sizes.

SLEEVE - Designed by John Pawson. John Pawson’s design sets one hand-blown glass cylinder within another – the outer cylinder flaring into a refined disc lip at its lower edge. The lamp casts light downwards, but its clear body also glows along its entire length. Sleeve is available in three sizes, with a metal finish in nickel or black.

LIVING EDGE - WonderGlass is available exclusively from Living Edge in Australia. Founders Maurizio and Christian Mussati will be visiting Living Edge showrooms around Australia, including a press event in Living Edge’s headquarters and flagship store in Sydney.
