During Saturday Indesign 2024, Living Edge held our inaugural Magis Puppy design challenge, 'Unleashed Potential'. The exhibition was a testament to the power of creativity and community. The design challenge, where twenty architecture and interiors firms reimagined the Magis Puppy, brought out the best in everyone. Your votes helped us celebrate creativity while supporting Assistance Dogs Australia, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your enthusiasm and support.
Spike by FutureSpace
Top Dog. Voted by the public.
"FutureSpace's response to the Magis Puppy Design Challenge is rooted in their commitment to collaboration, sustainability, and the core principles of design ie: drawing. As a team, they not only came together to conceptualise the design but also actively participated in its production, ensuring a holistic approach. Emphasising sustainability, FutureSpace chose to recycle materials already available in their studio, giving new life to resources that were otherwise unused. Additionally, the design pays homage to the enduring value of hand drawing, using pencils as a medium to reflect their belief in this fundamental aspect of the creative process. They also chose to retain some of the original Puppy’s features, recognising and building upon its status as a successful design icon."
Doug by SJB
Best In Show - Most Innovative. Voted by Magis.
"Sometimes, we get a little carried away. As did Doug, as the scents of spring sent him into a fervored fling digging amongst the flowers.
He’s the perfect pooch for the SJB team - charming, cheeky, and always revelling in the joys of colour!"
Perennial Puppy by Cox Architecture
Best Use of Materials. Voted by Living Edge.
Cox has collaborated with Natural Brick based on a shared philosophy that the materials we specify carry immense power to influence supply chains, reduce waste, and promote environmental responsibility. The Perennial Puppy challenges the necessity of sourcing raw materials when existing resources are readily available. Constructed from the puppy plastic to provides textural aesthetic, and waste brick for durability, puppy is cute, carbon conscious and built to last.
Moody by Lot 1 Design
"Moody has been reimagined as a lamp, skilfully crafted from 3D-printed opaque resin with integrated LED lighting and accented with a leather-bound leash for a subtle touch. Moody follows a circadian rhythm, adjusting its light to mimic natural daylight. During the day, it shines brightly and gradually softens, culminating in a soothing, almost blue-light-free glow that aligns with our body clocks and sets the stage for relaxation and sleep, whether for you or your little ones."
BADASS by ZETR
"BADASS is a rebel and a revolutionary, a USB-C charged breed who will keep you connected everywhere you go. We’re all slaves to our devices, and BADASS is no exception. Go fetch your phone!"
The Debbie Dog by Greg Natale
"Channelling the raw and rebellious energy of New York’s post-punk scene, the Debbie Dog pays tribute to the legendary Blondie front woman with a mix of rock-and-roll audacity and sleek downtown style. Debbie is elegantly formed with a high gloss black finish, spiked with 24k gold studs. She plays up the gritty glamour of the new wave diva and her fellow habitués at punk clubs across the globe."
Scribble by Altus Design Studio
"We embraced the challenge to re-imagine the Magis Puppy with our signature approach to design: a thoughtful application of bold colour and pattern, layered textures, and a playful spirit… Meet Scribble! Our combined love for art and colour has informed our choice of material. We’ve covered our Puppy nose-to-tail in a colour-filled mix of pencil shavings, transforming what is normally the waste product from the artistic process into the medium itself. Our Puppy wears more than just a costume; our four-legged creation reflects an eclectic sense of uninhibited creativity and artistic expression."
Spot by Hassell
"Step into a realm where nostalgia and creativity converge. “Spot” is a reimagining of Eero Aarnio’s classic “Puppy” enveloped in a vibrant, plasticine skin. The vivid colours and intricate, blotchy patterns, evokes the joy and spontaneity of childhood play."
Arty by Gensler
"Arty’s mission, “Design for a Radically Changing World,” reflects Gensler’s commitment to tackling global challenges. By innovating solutions for climate change and urban transformation, Arty’s attire embodies our drive to adapt and shape the future. Through enhancing human connection and inspiring hope, Arty paves the way for a brighter tomorrow.

Kuro by Studio Williams
"We’ve named our puppy after our own puppy, Kuro!
So when we sculpted our puppy, we gave them a curly tail and some floppy ears like Kuro. For our inspiration, we loved the simplicity of the colour white, but wanted to express more texture and materiality to the puppy. Taking inspiration from actual famous sculptors like Alberto Giacometti, and more contemporary designers such as Rose Uniacke, we covered the puppy in plaster bandages, re-shaping the tail and ears into more of an “oodle”
After the layer of bandages, we covered the puppy in plaster and scraped and shaped the puppy into the white textural mess that it is now."
Mag-Gunn by Davenport Campbell
"Design can be functional, it can be aesthetic, it can solve problems and it can be innovative. BUT great design provokes thought, it generates discussion and incites emotions. We have taken inspiration for Aarnio’s Puppy from an Australian woman who has created a worldwide furore with her creativity. Her name is Raygun. No other 2024 Olympic athlete has generated this much discussion, and whether you like her or loathe her she has singlehandedly spun the coin of debate and got the world talking about the sport (or is it an artform?) of breakdancing. Our personal opinion of Raygun is not important, our hope is that our Puppy provokes debate… and hopefully wins a few points."
Flax by Lawless & Meyerson
"Our first idea involved cutting the pup in half. This quickly proved untenable, but being of the belief that happy accidents make for better results we persevered. To cover the scars inflicted on the canine we decided to upholster our new pet. Adrien (our fashion-educated team member) created a pattern and meticulously hand-stitched the canine and put it back together. A nod to art, tailoring, craftsmanship, detailing (and our love of dogs) all combine to reflect our studio’s values & passions."
Bright Ideas by Novari Collective
"Interior designers engage in a dynamic and iterative process, generating and refining numerous concepts. Our team is a constant source of innovative ideas, often driven by the need to meet tight deadlines and client expectations (which can feel like having to jump through hoops).
Yellow trace paper serves as an iconic symbol of this creative and problem-solving process, facilitating collaborative discussions within the office before presenting final solutions to clients. Notably, some of the most compelling ideas often emerge during late hours, when the pressure to meet deadlines and navigate client demands is at its peak. This period of intense focus and creativity can yield exceptional design solutions that might otherwise go unexplored.
Our puppy is a tribute to our creative process and late nights where bright ideas are conceived."
Oliver by AJC
"The puppy has been re-envisioned as a living vessel for a thriving plant. The body hosts a lush sprouting Rhipsalis plant which will continue to grow and eventually overtake the puppy’s original shape and form. Our intention is to create a constantly changing puppy under the concept of a living organism."
Beton Brat by Studio Jack Milenkovic
"A collaboration with Julien from Idea Creations. A tongue and cheek approach to the brief and solidifying a design concept based on Eternal Elegance with a Modern Twist. We are always trying to blend timeless sophistication with contemporary flair. It captures a spirit of our brands that feels both enduring and relevant. It is also personally signifies a new chapter and direction that feels very much ‘cemented’ in our approach."
Wagazine by Indesign
"Wagazine is an imaginative puppy enveloped in a curated selection of cut-outs sourced from the pages of Habitus and Indesign magazines. Careful consideration was given to integrating meaningful words and phrases, infusing the design with a playful narrative. The elements were thoughtfully combined to reflect Wagazine’s distinct personality, aligning with Indesign’s brand ethos. The concept illustrates how discarded materials can be reimagined into art, promoting sustainability and the reuse of resources — principles echoed in the architecture we showcase. This expressive piece was a collaborative effort, with each team member contributing to the process."
