Our Guide to Buying an Aeron Chair

Since its inception, Aeron’s legacy of sustainability and innovation has continued to modernise the office landscape – and the Aeron office chair remains a benchmark for ergonomic seating.

Choosing the right Aeron means finding the size and features that best suit your body and work needs for optimal comfort.

1. Choose a Colour That Complements Your Space

The Aeron Chair is offered in four distinctive frame and mesh colours, each designed to suit various interiors: Graphite, Mineral, Carbon, and Onyx.
Carbon: A softer, slightly lighter charcoal-grey than Graphite with a modern feel.
Onyx: A sharper, near-black ultra matte option.
Graphite: Classic, deep neutral colour that pairs seamlessly with almost any interior styles.
Mineral: Light hue that brings a fresh, airy feel to modern or minimalist spaces.

The standard base of the chair matches the frame colour, and is also available with a polished aluminium base.

2. Determine what size Aeron Chair is right for you

Since the size B chair is designed to fit a broad range of people, Herman Miller recommends it for most users.
Pay particular attention to seat depth when selecting your size. You want at least a couple of fingers' worth of space between the back of your knee and the edge of the seat.

3. Optional Arms

Living Edge offers the Aeron Chair with fully adjustable arms or an armless version.
For the healthiest posture while typing, your elbows should be bent at approximately 90 degrees, resting gently on the arms of the chair.
Fully Adjustable Arms feature the same height adjustment range. They also slide backward and forward, and pivot inward and outward.
The standard armpads are made of durable polyurethane foam with a non-upholstered finish that’s comfortable to the touch. The armpad colour is automatically determined by the frame colour you select: Onyx and Graphite feature black armpads, Mineral chairs featuring Dark Mineral pads and Carbon features Dark Carbon armpads.

Materials Matter

It’s good for the body and good for the environment, too. Aeron comprises more than 50 percent recycled materials, and it’s now made with ocean-bound plastic, which diverts more than 150 metric tons of plastic from the ecosystem annually.
Its innovative 8Z Pellicle fabric also sets Aeron apart from the competition. This mesh-like material offers comfort through eight varied zones of tension in the seat and back. The tightest zones keep the body off the frame and in the chair, while more compliant zones conform to the sitting bones (the lower part of your pelvis) and distribute weight evenly. These zones eliminate circulation-restricting pressure points.
Among the best Herman Miller mesh office chairs, Aeron’s 8Z Pellicle fabric allows air, body heat, and water vapor to pass through the seat and back, helping you maintain a comfortable, even temperature year round.

Design Legacy

Designers Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf were pioneers of ergonomics and material innovation: They didn’t rely on the ubiquitous foam and fabric materials common to the office furniture industry at the time. Instead, they developed breathable 8Z Pellicle® fabric and conducted extensive research to create a human-centered design on the cutting edge of technology.
In 2016, the Classic Aeron was remastered by Don Chadwick and in 2021, the Herman Miller® Aeron was made more sustainable with the inclusion of ocean-bound plastic.
