Soma Pedestal

Description

Created by Bower Studios founders Tammer Hijazi and Danny Giannella, the Soma Pedestal explores an intriguing idea: what if the objects we live with could experience the world alongside us?

Across three different sizes, each pedestal takes a precise form and introduces a surreal human detail. An ear listens from one surface, lips emerge from another, a nose projects from the grain, while watchful eyes incorporate inlays of malachite, lapis and pyrite stone. Rather than applied decoration, these features appear to grow from the timber itself, turning an otherwise restrained piece of furniture into something unexpectedly expressive.

The flat upper surface provides a considered stage for sculpture, ceramics and other collected objects, while Soma has enough presence to stand as an object in its own right. The restrained geometry and perfected execution keep the more playful elements in check, allowing it to sit comfortably within a residential interior without becoming novelty furniture.

Made in New York City from walnut, stone and leather, Soma reflects Bower Studios’ ongoing fascination with perception and the relationship we develop with the objects around us. The longer it shares your home, the harder it becomes to think of it as entirely inanimate.
