Description
At the heart of Melt Portable is a shade that seems to change state. Its irregular polycarbonate form appears reflective when unlit, then becomes translucent as the integrated LED reveals a warm, distorted glow from within.
That optical shift gives Melt presence even before it is switched on, while its rechargeable design lets the light move naturally with the way a home is used. The Small Portable offers the more compact expression for tables and smaller surfaces, atop a cone base. The Large Portable adds a tripod base and hanging strap, allowing its generous shade to stand as a low lantern or be suspended from a suitable hook or beam.
Both sizes are IP44 rated for indoor and outdoor use, making it easy to carry the atmosphere from dinner indoors to an evening on the terrace. A full charge provides approximately 7–10 hours of illumination.
Designed in Tom Dixon’s London studio and made in Germany, Melt is formed from blow-moulded polycarbonate, with vacuum metallisation creating its characteristic reflective surface. Technically precise, yet visually unpredictable, it is a light that becomes a different object when illuminated.
Part of the wider Melt Collection, Melt Portable carries the family’s distorted organic shade into a cordless format, alongside pendant, surface, floor and table lighting.
