Archeo by Jaime Hayón functions as both casual side table or occasional stool, exploring a curious tension: an object made through industrial production that appears shaped by centuries of erosion. Hayón draws on archaeological imagery, giving each form softened projections, deliberate irregularities and a finely textured surface intended to recall stone worn by natural forces.
Two sizes give the design distinctly different proportions. The 387mm-high version is broader and lower with a softly squared top and grounded base. The 467mm-high version is narrower and more upright, with a circular top and projecting forms that give it an almost figurative presence. Both can be used as a side table, casual stool or sculptural object, allowing Archeo to shift role as the space around it changes. Rotational moulding gives the polyethylene its continuous, complex contours, while a subtly mottled texture lends the surface a mineral-like depth.
An everyday object with the air of an ancient relic, shaped to look as though time got there first. That sense of age is deliberately constructed rather than polished away, and variations in the finish create a non-uniform surface. Slight marks or geometric irregularities are considered intrinsic to the design. The earthy colour palette extends Archeo’s geoligical material language. Suitable for outdoor use, Archeo has also been stability tested to EN1022:2005, ANSI BIFMA X5.4 and EN1730:2012.
