Luce Orizzontale by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec is a sculptural piece inspired by a previous bespoke installation of the French designers for a historical building in Paris.
'It is not a technical glass', explain Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, 'but an ever-changing material, with aluminium extrusions inserted through it. The result we wanted to achieve was precise but also fluctuating and vibrant.'
The structure and the lighting system
Luce Orizzontale is modular: the range includes three configurations of 8, 10 or 12 cast glass cylinders, suspended and interconnected to form structures of different lengths.
The glass cylinders rest on a primary polished aluminium bar which is the supporting axis of the lamp. The light sources are inserted in the bar (a strip of LEDs that gives light upwards and one that pushes it downwards). The touch dimmer, compatible with Dali and Push Dim systems, is positioned at one end of the bar.
A sculptural presence
Luce Orizzontale, which has a range of dimensions that varies from just over one and a half meters to almost two and a half meters, was designed to illuminate rectangular tables in private residences as well as meeting rooms. When installed in parallel rows, it creates a sculptural presence which is perfectly suitable for large public spaces: in hotels, restaurants, corporate offices and museums.
