Designed in response to an increasingly mobile way of living, this rechargeable light reflects Tom Dixon’s belief that lighting should move with you, rather than remain tethered to a fixed outlet. Advances in battery technology and low-energy LEDs allow it to illuminate spaces with complete adaptability, making it ideal for shifting between work, leisure and relaxation with ease.
Originally conceived as one of Tom Dixon’s earliest experiments with plastic, the sculptural form is inspired by coastal tetrapods - concrete structures designed to resist the force of the sea. The original was roto-moulded using a handmade multi-part tool, and its enduring appeal saw it awarded Millennium Mark status in 1997, later entering the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Now reinvented as a fully certified IP65 outdoor light, the design features a durable matte white polyethylene shade that emits a soft, diffused glow. Lightweight yet robust, it can be sat on, stacked or carried with ease, offering both practicality and character. An integrated warm LED with smooth dimming, rechargeable battery and remote control complete this expressive, award-winning piece - proof that great design can be both iconic and effortlessly adaptable.
