Poetry in the Form of Furniture

For the trio behind EOOS, design is a poetical discipline and a cultural service for society. Operating across the fields of furniture, product, and retail design, each piece is created with a focus on people for the demands of modern life and work.

Designing impact: EOOS for Walter Knoll.

Founded in 1995 by Gernot Bohmann, Harald Gründl and Martin Bergmann, EOOS is a Vienna-based design studio renowned for its thoughtful, human-centred approach. The brand derives its name from one of the mythical horses pulling the chariot of the sun god Helios in Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

EOOS

EOOS adopts what it calls “poetic analysis” — a process of exploring images, rituals and myths to uncover deeper cultural meaning. Through this lens, the trio redefines the purpose and function of contemporary design.

The studio’s long-standing partnership with Walter Knoll began in 1997 with a shared vision—to create timeless, human-centred living spaces. Since then, their collaboration has produced numerous design icons that continue to shape the language of contemporary living.

“There are modern innovations possible within traditional craftsmanship. We are fascinated by the poles of hand-craft and robot-craft—we feel comfortable in the space between them.”

With designs that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, EOOS explores the balance between heritage and progress.

Blending architectural clarity while inviting softness, Molamisa embodies both structure and emotion, equally at home in private living spaces or professional interiors.

The sofa is conceived as a flexible architecture within the room—an adaptable system that welcomes and inspires. Adjustable armrests and backrests allow for personalised comfort with a simple push or pull, while modular “islands” of varying heights and depths invite endless configurations.

Cuoio

Minimalist and timeless, Cuoio is an elegant chair composed of saddle leather and a steel frame. The leather hugs the body, while the back and seat are gently yielding, with slits in the back to give shape, comfort and set visual accents.

Tadeo Table

Tadeo reinterprets the table as a central place for the rituals of togetherness with family and friends. The strong solid wood top of the table rests on a recessed base.

Effortless and secure, the design juxtaposes powerful aesthetics and restrained elegance to a sense of stability.

Sustainability

To advance the brand’s sustainable design initiatives, the brand launched EOOS Social Design in 2020, a social enterprise that tackles future challenges by design.

“Our interest in fashion, trends and the Zeitgeist is limited. We strive for durable and recyclable products. So much energy goes into every single product—our energy, the energy of the people who produce and sell it and then the energy of the people who buy it. We think every object has the right to live as long as it can and not be transformed in pure waste after its life.”
