As one half of the renowned Bouroullec brothers, artist and designer Ronan Bouroullec is well-versed in the creative process and has honed a distinct approach to creativity: one based on balance and complementarity. Bouroullecs’ collaborative designs involve a rigorous and complex process of research and testing, Ronan Bouroullec’s personal work offers no interferences, no plans. Growing up in the countryside, Ronan Bouroullec started drawing as an escape, a source of pure pleasure, explaining: “...drawing for me became what in French we call ‘compagnon’, a sort of friend.” Today, his drawings are instinctive rather than intellectualised, retaining a sense of whimsical naïveté - and exuding freedom.
