Description
Designed by Oscar Tusquets Blanca, the Simplex Chair asks a deceptively difficult question: how simple can a chair become? Its answer is a continuous tubular structure flowing from the backrest into the front legs, paired with slender rear legs and a circular seat that appears almost suspended within the frame. The open construction lets light pass through, giving Simplex an unusually transparent presence around the dining table.
There are familiar echoes within that economy of line. The sweeping backrest recalls classic Thonet café chairs, while the round seat nods to Enzo Mari’s Tonietta, reinterpreting recognisable forms through Tusquets’ own exercise in reduction.
For indoors, a stained beech plywood seat is paired with satin powder-coated steel in coordinating finishes. The outdoor version shifts to brushed aluminium with a silver matte anodized finish and polished stainless steel structure. An optional additional backrest offers greater support for longer sitting, without sacrificing stackability. Both configurations stack up to 4 chairs, with spacers helping protect the seat as they nest together.
Delicate in appearance, not in use, Simplex is tested to European standards for users up to 110kg. Its light footprint and stackable design make it perfect for home, cafe, bar or office settings.
