Roxanne will transport you back to the 70’s; a time when radical designs in style and architecture had taken the world by storm. The chair is packed with personality; experimentation with shape, colour and music played a fundamental role in the conception of this sinuous armchair.

After a history of experimenting with new forms and materials, polyurethane foam has become Gufram’s signature medium. Due to its malleability and versatility it is particularly well suited to the brand's pop-art inspired and provocative designs.

Since 1966, Gufram has consistently produced iconic designs which take form and value of absolute uniqueness, thanks to a cross-contamination of industrial planning, artisanal creation and the creative inspiration typical of art. Many signature pieces have been displayed across the world in prominent design centres including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Vitra Design Museum, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, among many more.

The Roxanne chair is the latest piece to come from the iconic brand and Hong Kong based designer Michael Young. The extruded form created by Young evokes many traditional Gufram elements. Realised in polyurethane and then upholstered with cloth (which gives the opportunity to explore infinite colour and pattern variations), the seat is further characterised by a groove along the whole perimeter.

Michael Young's forms have always combined ergonomics with technology, combining sinuous looks and cutting edge materials. Roxanne was designed with the aid of an innovative computer program enabling the designer to build a highly ergonomic and comfortable form. To get the final shape, one month of mathematical calculations on the computer were necessary.

Music also played a fundamental role in the conception, with inspiration coming from the disco decor of the radical designers of the 70s and Michael Young's passion for Sting and The Police.

Roxanne can also be equipped with a spring mechanism which enables it to rotate itself then return to the exact starting point once you stop using it. The chair is perfect for domestic environments or public spaces, it is also available with different upholstery, colours and patterns.
