Drawing from years of experience in the fast-paced commercial and residential sectors, Living Edge tackles the education sector with flair and a fresh perspective to deliver furniture that seamlessly merges functionality and style. No brand embodies such qualities as The Figueras Group.

The Figueras Group is without question the world specialist in the design and manufacture of high-end fixed and movable seating systems. And what’s more, they’ve held this leadership position since 1929. During this time, The Figueras Group has supplied in excess of ten million seating systems to more than forty thousand public spaces, education environments and government facilities across the world.

From the company’s unique understanding of the engineering requirements for such large-scale seating systems, Figueras’ orientation to designing for the education sector seeks to both optimise and maximise the profitability of space. In response to the increased needs of users, Figueras has led the conversation for integrating technology with design rigour for almost a century, reflecting the brand’s experience and strong focus on creating quality designs equipped with all the latest tools for the modern, tech-savvy end user.

The new Ian Potter Southbank Centre, home to the new Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, has officially opened its doors to more than 1,000 existing staff and students. Sitting within Melbourne’s Arts Precinct, the $109 million Conservatorium is at the heart of the University of Melbourne’s $200 million Southbank campus redevelopment.

Boasting world-leading acoustic spaces, the Conservatorium also features multiple rehearsal spaces, small studios, a flexible performance and rehearsal venue designed for professional recording capability, a 400-seat performance space, student hub and performance space foyer and informal study and meeting spaces.

It can also lay claim to one of the world’s largest oculus windows, six metres in diameter. The Conservatorium is also now able to integrate over 1,000 enrolled music students and 6,600 students from other faculties across two campuses. The Conservatorium was designed by John Wardle Architects and constructed by Lendlease, with acoustic spaces designed by Marshall Day.

Figeuras’ movable seating solutions offer the most appropriate engineering solutions to optimise space. Figueras Movable Seating Solutions provide comprehensive engineering solutions for multipurpose spaces, such as conference rooms, conference centres, theatres or large multipurpose spaces. From the start of a project, the Figueras team of experts advise on the most appropriate engineering solutions to make use of and optimise a space according to the customer’s needs.  Figueras Movable Seating Solutions advise on the best automatic system per venue, such as the Mutasub, Mutarail systems, Folding Tiers etc.

Hosting the largest community of music students and academics in Australia, class size accommodation and space flexibility played a huge role in selecting Figueras to fit out The Performance Arts Centres of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. The project fitted with 5064 Minispace  /  Retractable Seating Automatic System seats boasts as the first retractable system in Australia to date.
