Founded in 1972, BD Barcelona Design has become known as the Spanish furniture company with the most international prestige. It's catalogue features designs from the many of the world's most important contemporary creators. For this year’s Milan Design week, the renowned brand premiered several new designs showcasing their dedication to the creative process.

“BD Barcelona is one of the few truly international contemporary yet historical design brands born from Barcelona culture. It is a brand that consistently produces pieces that mediate between the classic and innovative. This position is difficult to maintain for a customer base that desires the creativity of the artistic yet demands the tried and true performance of tradition. “Said American designer Stephen Burks, who attended the design fair and spent time at BD's installation Speaking with fellow with design enthusiasts.

Together with Bolon, Burks designed a new range of textiles to upholster pieces in the premier Grasso collection, unveiled for the first time this week at the Salone del Mobile furniture fair. One of these combines Bolon's woven vinyl material with strands of space-dyed yarn wool, which form horizontal floats that stretch across the upholstery.

“Grasso is an intuitive and immediate response to both aspects of BD’s heritage and culture. In many ways, the concept of extreme visual comfort is both a starting point and an end goal. Pushing away from the foundation of the exaggerated expression of traditional overstuffed upholstery allowed us to find an unexpected place of abstraction where the voluminous form not only recalls the traditional smoking lounge chair but also expresses something of the artistically absurd. “Continued Stephen.

BD also used Milan design week to showcase an exciting new collaborative collection. Late Last year BD partnered with design establishments in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain to create the PostCraft Collection. With help from Barcelona-based Creative Dialogue, the brand enlisted a talented local designer from each of these locations, to create works that merge traditional Arab artisanal skills with contemporary aesthetics.

A unique cross cultural collection that fuses East and West it highlights the creativity of each and brings together five creative talents from the Middle East with the craftsmanship and expertise of BD Barcelona. An exploration of culture and heritage that reflects the rapidly changing world around us, it re-imagines regional, artisanal, skills and traditions through a contemporary lens. Conceived in collaboration with Syrian-Spanish architect and Creative Dialogue founder Samer Yamani, the PostCraft collection features work by Sheikha Hind Bint Majid Al Qassimi, Maysam Al Nasser, Loulwa Al-Radwan, Aisha Al Sowaidi, and the Gazzaz Brothers, a diverse group of talents from four countries in the Gulf, including the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain and from several disciplines including art, architecture and interiors. Each product is produced in a Limited-Edition series of 8 unique pieces + 2 prototype + 2 artist proof.
