Description

Designed in 1958 by Verner Panton, the Cone Chair marked an early milestone in the designer’s exploration of bold geometry and expressive furniture forms. Originally created for a restaurant in Denmark, the chair derives its silhouette from the classic cone shape, transforming this simple figure into a distinctive upholstered armchair.

The padded shell forms both the backrest and arm supports in a continuous gesture, creating a compact yet enveloping seat. A soft cushion enhances comfort, while the tapered form sits atop an elegant stainless-steel cruciform base that allows the chair to swivel, adding functionality to its sculptural character.

Constructed with a glass-fibre reinforced shell and polyurethane foam upholstery, the design balances structural strength with visual lightness. The result is a chair that feels equally suited to dining environments, lounges, hospitality spaces or contemporary offices.

More than six decades after its introduction, the Cone Chair remains a defining example of Panton’s experimental spirit—where bold geometry, material innovation and comfort combine to create an enduring modern design classic.
