Originally designed in the early 1950s for the Cité Universitaire student residence in Antony just outside Paris, the Antony Chair is one of Jean Prouvé’s final and most defining works. Crafted with structural clarity in mind, its steel frame features a transverse tubular brace and two sheet-metal brackets that elegantly cradle the seat—creating a form that feels at once bold and refined.
In this new limited edition, the seat shell is fashioned from European pine veneered plywood, its natural grain enhanced by a warm, hard-wax oil treatment that brings out its intrinsic texture while ensuring durability. The frame is finished in Prouvé’s original Rouge Corsaire - a rich, historic red - that underscores the chair’s industrial elegance.
Available only until the end of December 2025, each chair is proudly labelled with its unique number - transforming it into a collectable piece of design history. Antony wasn’t just a work of furniture; it was the first chair acquired by Vitra Design Museum, kicking off a long-standing collaboration with the Prouvé estate and solidifying its legacy in modern design.
Whether placed in a refined residential corner or a thoughtfully curated office, the Antony Limited Edition 2025 offers poetic presence, it’s where functionalist logic meets sculptural inspiration, and where design heritage lives on in every detail.
