Description

Gavin Turk is a British born, internationally renowned artist. He pioneered many forms of contemporary British sculpture now taken for granted, including the painted bronze, the waxwork, the recycled art-historical icon and the use of rubbish in art.

Gold Triple Pop (2009) references Turk’s own iconic sculpture Pop (1993), which in turn references Andy Warhol’s homage to Elvis. The king of pop art (Warhol) meets the king of pop music (Elvis), with the added ‘pop’ coming from the gun of Sid Vicious as he casually shoots at the viewer, in reference to the famous scene in The Great Rock n Roll Swindle mockumentary where Sid Vicious fires a gun into the audience.
