Description

These two soft ground etchings trace the introspective, self-questioning and dark subject matter which often forms the backbone of Emin’s work. The firm line of the etchings take her collaboration with Louise Bourgeois as a point of departure, without diminishing the sense of fragility typically associated with Emin’s drawings and prints.

Always at the centre of her own world, Tracey Emin uses all aspects of her life in her art, turning intimate autobiography into broader statements about sex, love, death, freedom and everyday life. Her work has taken the form of diaristic drawings, paintings, films, sculptures and written stories, all of which convey the same combination of frustration, pain, compassion and wit. Emin was appointed professor of drawing at London’s Royal Academy in 2011 and was awarded a CBE in 2013. She represented Britain at the 52nd Venice Biennale and has recently completed a major public commission in the heart of Sydney’s CBD comprising 60 strategically placed handmade bronze birds.
